About Girls Set Go

dedicated to empowering Black girls to thrive

Girls Set Go is a STEM-focused nonprofit dedicated to empowering Black girls to thrive, lead, and innovate through education, community, and advocacy. We exist because talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not.

In a world where science, technology, engineering, and mathematics drive economic growth and social progress, Black girls remain vastly underrepresented and underserved. Despite their curiosity, brilliance, and potential, systemic barriers such as limited access to quality STEM education, lack of representation, and minimal mentorship continue to narrow their pathways. Girls Set Go is changing that narrative, intentionally and early.

We focus on high school girls (ages 14–18), a pivotal stage when young people begin making critical decisions about their academic and career futures. Through our immersive 12-week STEM Bootcamp and extended mentorship program, we equip participants with in-demand technical skills, exposure to diverse STEM and entrepreneurship pathways, and access to mentors and professional networks that are often out of reach.

Our approach goes beyond academic preparation. Girls Set Go builds confidence, leadership, and belonging. We address the digital divide, close career-readiness gaps, and create a supportive environment where Black girls are encouraged to dream boldly, explore fearlessly, and lead with purpose.

At Girls Set Go, we believe Black girls belong at the forefront of innovation, not as an exception, but as the standard. We are creating a more just, inventive, and equitable future for all of us by investing in their potential now.

About Girls Set Go

Rationale

Despite representing over 15% of the U.S. population under age 18, Black girls account for only 2% of the STEM workforce (National Science Foundation, 2023). Systemic barriers such as limited access to STEM education, lack of representation, and absence of mentorship continue to prevent capable and curious girls from pursuing and persisting in STEM.

STEM careers are among the fastest-growing and highest-paying sectors, and early exposure significantly increases long-term interest and success. Focusing on high school girls (ages 14–18) allows us to reach students at a pivotal moment as they begin to make critical decisions about their education and future careers.

Girls Set Go delivers a transformative 12-week STEM Bootcamp followed by an extended mentorship program designed to equip young Black women, particularly high school with the tools, confidence, and community they need to thrive in today’s workforce.
Our program goes beyond survival. It empowers participants to gain in-demand skills, explore diverse career pathways—including entrepreneurship and build the professional networks often out of reach due to systemic barriers.

We intentionally address the digital divide and the career-readiness gaps that many Black girls face, especially when access to quality training and mentorship is limited.

Girls Set Go provides a dynamic, supportive, and future-focused learning environment for individuals who are prepared to grow, pivot, or dream bigger.
